Airbag Module Reset

Airbag deployed in a collision? We reset SRS airbag modules by clearing stored crash data and hard codes, so a serviceable module can be reused instead of replaced.

Please note: a module reset does not guarantee that the warning light goes out. If the light stays on, another part of the airbag system — an airbag, seat belt, sensor or connection — still needs attention.

Reset, diagnosis or replacement?

A module reset, an SRS diagnosis and an airbag replacement solve different problems. After a collision, a vehicle may need one, two or all three.

Module reset

When airbags deploy, the airbag control module stores crash data and hard codes. A reset erases them so a serviceable module can go back in the vehicle. We work with most makes and models; please contact us before ordering if the vehicle is older than 2005.

SRS diagnosis

The airbag module monitors the airbags, seat belts and sensors in the system. If the warning light stays on, a scan tool reads the codes that show which part still needs attention — sometimes a part that is not properly connected. We diagnose SRS faults on the vehicle at our Houston shop.

Replacement

Deployed airbags are replaced, not repaired. A new module may be needed when the old one can’t be reset — for example, if the vehicle has been in a flood or the module has corrosion.

Airbag Module Reset Services

Our post-accident restoration services include airbag module resets and airbag replacement. If your car has been involved in an accident, its airbag module may need to be reset so that the system is functional again. In most cases, a new module is likely not required. We can help you save costs by resetting the old one while still getting efficient results.

Turn to DNA Safety Repair for Service You Can Trust

An airbag is one of the most important safety components of a vehicle and arguably one of the best car inventions ever. When operating normally, airbags are meant to activate automatically and prevent your body from crashing directly against the car in case of an accident. Considering how important an airbag is, it is necessary that it is always in the right condition and fully functional.

DNA Safety Repair specializes in airbag module repairs, restoring your module and clearing stored crash data and codes. When a vehicle’s airbags deploy in an accident, the module stores data indicating it is time for a replacement. Resetting your airbag module provides numerous advantages over traditional replacements.

The Importance of Airbag Module Repair

The airbag module reset is essential because any fault with the module will reduce its efficiency and effectiveness and put you at serious risk of injury if an accident were to occur. Airbag sensors and modules must be fully functional and properly placed in a non-compromised position that saves the driver and passengers during an accident. Our airbag module reset services are focused on the significant components that ensure that the airbag is properly deployed and works effectively if an accident were to occur.

Deployed and Undeployed Airbags

Whether or not airbags deploy following a crash, it’s worth having everything checked out by our experts. We will help reset the SRS modules and erase your crash data and hard codes. A module reset does not guarantee that the airbag light goes out: if it stays on, the codes show which part of the system still needs attention.

Airbag module reset questions

Do I have to buy a new airbag module after an accident?

No need to buy a new one. Simply clear your original airbag module of any crash codes. Reusing your original module could save you hundreds of dollars. Purchase a module reset service here. The only time you may have to purchase a new one is in the event that the vehicle has been in a flood, or if the module has corrosion.

What if the airbag light is still on after I install the module?

If your airbag light is still on after you install your module, use a scan tool to retrieve the codes. Since the airbag module is reading all airbags, seat belts, and sensors, it’s possible that one of these components is not properly connected. Email us with pictures of the codes if you need further assistance.

How long does a module reset take?

By mail, serviceable modules are generally reset and dispatched the same business day we receive them; shipping transit time is separate. At our Houston shop, serviceable airbag modules brought in during business hours typically take about an hour. Call ahead if you need a time estimate.

Which vehicles do you work on?

We work with most makes and models. Please contact us before purchasing if your vehicle is older than 2005.
